That is pretty twisted. Current baron wouldn't exist if his brother hadn't died. Yet, in every anniversary, he tortures Vincent. But on the other hand, if he was told for years that he's just an replacement, his self image must be pretty warped. I still don't understand his reasoning for torture though.

The light dawns.

Translation: I am but a replacement.. born to perpetuate the legacy of an old man sick with grief and hate. A decent person would recognize said legacy for what it is, and lay it to rest. The Baron is not a decent person; he sees his birth as a mission given to him from the old man.

Is it justified? Of course it is justified, if it was not right, he would not be here. This is a classical villain.

Probably the baron has been tortured all duing his life, when he was raised to be a replacement for someone else, and could not develop an own personality. This would somewhat explan what he does to Vincent. Explain, but not justify.

Edit: Totally forgot to mention that Vincent is showing off far more courage than when he is sober.
