The Stanley Cup is clearly better than the World Championships.

The leafs aren't going to win if they can't make the dance. ;-) I'm just happy because my Canucks, aka the Swedish National Team, are doing fine.

I must admit I haven't followed the Stanley cup in years. I was a big Canadiens fan (and thus, Leafs hater) for a while, but that was long ago, and now I don't even know where my t-shirt is (probably with all the other red things that I never wear because they're such a pain to wash ;))

So nowadays all I care about in hockey is that Finland does well in the world championships -- which they did for once :)

What about Finland players in the NHL? Pekka Rinne, Goaltender for the Nashville Predators is from Finland though thanks to our Canucks they get to golf for the next few months now.

I saw a bit of the ice hockey championship while I was out visiting an Irish pub in Helsinki week before last...I was naturally mystified by the whole ordeal, though it certainly looks like spectators dress up as oddly for ice hockey as they do for cricket matches and the like.

Heh, I can't name a single Finnish player except Teemu Sel‰nne, and I have no idea where he plays ;)

Here's a link to help explain why.

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/sharks/2011/05/26/the-annual-post-playoff-injury-update-demers-nichol-heatley-clowe-boyle-couture-pavelski-thornton/

Those are injuries sustained, (and often played through) by a team that was just eliminated in the third round.
