Hi!
The Finnish band Cold Rat provided me with a very special birthday present for SHD-WK -- its very own theme song!
You can download it here: Watch the Spikes
And you can discuss it in this thread!
(I didn't have anything to do with it, other than approving what they did along the way, but they certainly did a stellar job! The lyrics capture certain aspects of the comic rather well :)) _________________ "My sanity is like a house of cards; carefully constructed, fragile, and of no use to anybody." |

Downloaded and added into my playlist. I like the melody and theme of the song quite a bit, but I'm having some difficulties following lyrics. Maybe I have to try transcribing them using headphones and not in the middle of the night ;)
I like combination of strings and flutes with guitars, bass and drums. They mesh together well and create interesting texture. Effect is strong especially on the first time listening to the song, since it starts with strings only and then guitars surprised me there. _________________ A whisper in your ear |

| I only managed to listen to half of it because of computer issues, but I like what I heard. Now you just need a tv series to go along with it. Or, barring that, a music video. |

Heh, I wish I could really draw well and had lots of time and patience, then I would make a fake animated TV series opening to go with it. Although the song only really covers part of the story, I guess ... I'll probably post the lyrics a while later, if there's enough interest (I secured permission from the band to do so ;))

Interested.
I'm very bad at transcribing lyrics... |

Seconded, it would make it a lot easier for me to catch everything being sung. _________________ A whisper in your ear |

Hey, I just joined, long time reader, and I downloaded the song.
I've listened to it several times and I still can't catch most of the lyrics. If it was hip-hop, I'd be rappin it already, but just can't hear what he's singin.
You can post the lyrics? Please do! I sooo want to read them and hear what he's actually singing about. |

It's the Finnish accent, I'm sure ;P

I'll dig them out and post them a bit later. (At that point, the discussion will probably turn into a discussion about the lyrics, and I just want to give some more room first in case anybody still wants to discuss the song/the music. I know the band is checking in here :)) _________________ "My sanity is like a house of cards; carefully constructed, fragile, and of no use to anybody." |

Nice theme song, it seems quite different from the other Cold Rat tracks I listened to ages and ages ago, but I'm having difficulty understanding the lyrics too. _________________ "It is a cliché that most clichés are true, but then, like most clichés, that cliché is untrue." |

| It is a nicely put together song. I've always loved the combination of orchestral music and more contemporary genres/instrumentation. What kinda music is Cold Rat normally recording? |

I asked them what genre they consider themselves, and the answer was "rock". I don't really know how to describe it either :) I'd say it's a bit untypical though, not always that easy to get into on first listen. I think there's another song for download on their record label's page (that I linked in my newspost), and their old page at mikseri.net has two older tracks for download (I recommended "Heart of Mold" on a newspost before, it's still one of my favourite songs ever.)
I'll post the lyrics once I've woken up enough... give me a few more minutes :) _________________ "My sanity is like a house of cards; carefully constructed, fragile, and of no use to anybody." |

Here are the lyrics, as written in the CD booklet:
Watch The Spikes
music & lyrics: Tomas Lamas
Strange-1: Olli Aromaa
Waiting for the sun to stop
Hoping it's not gonna happen
Meaning of The Life will grow
Put your faith in the strange 1s
Some things aren't meant to be
Get away the sun is falling
There's no way that you can fight
Endure the shame of worthless knight
It's fine if we remain like always
Failure you still hide
Away while you can still run _________________ "My sanity is like a house of cards; carefully constructed, fragile, and of no use to anybody." |

Cool. now I can follow the lyrics without fear of mishearing them (you know how embarrassing it is to learn after several years that you have been hearing them completely incorrectly). I like them and the way they paint the comic. _________________ A whisper in your ear |

Wow, I really like it! I'm enjoying the use of unconventional melodies and instrumentation. The flute in particular is a great touch!
It's a rare treat to find new music that I like (I'm rather picky about my music), so thank you Cold Rat! |

| Nice, I like it.. I can second Negation's story about mishearing lyrics for ages and finding out years later that you had it wrong.. it's sooo embarrassing when you're in a discussion of song lyrics and find out you've been wrong. |
