What would be the possibility of making an RSS feed for this comic? It would make it a lot easier for me to follow the comic.

Hi imreader, welcome to the forums!

The RSS thing has been on my to-do list for a while, but I haven't gotten around to it yet -- will have to think about things again. I think that OnlineComics.net has an RSS feed that would at least report updates, but I can't find it quickly now ...

If I find the time some day to implement my own RSS system, would I include just the comic? Or the news post, spikylink, author's notes as well? Or separate feeds? I'm a little unsure how to structure the stuff that goes out with every update...

Thanks for the welcome; I just read all 488 comics in the past 2 days.

I just know that I rely on my Google homepage feed reader for comics, that's all.

I'll try to find a way; I know Ryan North (the great guy who brought us Oh No Robot, Project Wonderful, and Dinosaur Comics) has a system called RSSpect that I have been looking into a bit -- I guess I can see if that works for my purposes some time soon. (It also allows to create RSS feeds from any site -- might be worth trying out for you in the meantime?)

In the meantime, question for everyone who uses RSS -- how would you like the RSS feed to be set up? Comic, news, spikylink, author's notes all in one RSS news item? That's probably less confusing than having separate feeds, but aren't those news items kinda big then ...?

I'm using RSS myself, but not all that much (mostly to follow a couple blogs that I read), and not for webcomics. How do other webcomics have their RSS feeds set up?

You shouldn't feel pressured to do this right away because I said so, but...

The RSS feed I feel is the most well done is QC, which it seems a lot of people around here read. It has the comic and the news post. However, that's all that comic has, there are no nifty snippets like the stuff you put on the right sidebar.

I like that stuff, but it might make a feed cluttered.

Anybody else have any ideas?

Nah, I just bumped it up higher on the long, long to-do-list, that's all ;)

I should check that out, maybe. I do read QC, but I read it on the website :) (Time to mention again that Piperka is a great webcomic bookmarking/tracking service ;))

Yeah, that's the problem. I could of course put just the comic in the RSS feed and a link back to the site for the rest, so people could read the comic in their RSS aggregator, and when they have time, they can still click through to read the rest. Or something. Have to think about it more, and wait for input from others ;)

(I'm using those pesky smilies too much again today, am I not?)

I think the link back would work pretty well.

I'm just curious if anybody else cares.

RSS feed would certainly be useful. Especially when the forum keeps growing and growing. So far it's still manageable size to go through manually, but soon it won't (I think / I hope) ;)

I think we were talking about an RSS feed for the comic, not for the forum.

(Not sure if there is a phpBB module for RSS, I guess there should be ...)

Ups, oho. My mistake ;)

Teacher I have a question for those of us who are rather computer-tarded. What is an RSS feed? > >

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. Basically, it's a way of getting things like comics and news to people automatically.

I use Google Reader, which is as simple as clicking the RSS icon and telling it to give me what I want. It takes no more than ten seconds to do that.

Just a quick note -- I haven't forgotten this, and it's quite high on my to-do list. But I'm a bit swamped with work at the moment, and it might be a while longer before I get around to implementing it. (Most likely, I'll go with RSSpect (linked earlier in this thread)).

I'm currently testing this. Should have it ready to be linked from the main page by Friday, just in time for the 4 year anniversary :)

(I know, it took much longer than expected ...)

I didn't read for a while, so I caught up.

And then I noticed: RSS Feed!

So far it seems to be working...
