Haha...illogical yaoi pairings are so amusing...I just hate when I come across them accidentally on Google Image x_x

The poll reminded me about this strip:

Enough said. XD

I've read the same thing. I don't see much wrong with that, 'cause the target audience will probably like it more than any other.

*chooses the squeal option* Oh, wait, maybe not...

Actually, I'm reminded of #440 when looking at this poll...I could swear that Vincent and Roland would kiss after that second panel.

Granted, I've read the comic Pandect and been more annoyed about the manga style of reading it (right to left) than the yaoi, so I suppose it wouldn't bother me if it was included in SHD-WK or not.

(yeah, I've almost reached the present in the archives, so I thought I'd resurrect yet more long-dead topics... :/)

Right.

(Of course the rule could change at some point in the future...)

Uh-oh does this have a real meaning? No, it doesn't. Not to me. No. No. No.
In my language this sometimes used instead of "ouch".
What's all the fuss with japanese?

I'm not entirely sure, Max. Maybe it's that "gay romance" doesn't have the same association with "long-haired pretty boys" that "yaoi" has with "bishounen". Personally, I rather wish it did; I'm not one of those japanimation supremacists that insists anime is just fundamentally better than cartoons and manga trumps comics, or whatever. I just would rather have something pretty to look at than the overly masculine, short-haired, square-jawed dudes with abs like segmented turtle shells that we so often see starring in western shows that want to portray a guy as attractive. Those dudes are fugly, I swear.

I think the fuss with the Japanese with the the term yaoi is that the word might have sprung from the genre of manga.
In my personal opinion I have two separate categories of "boys love." Yaoi being much more explicit and shounen-ai, which focuses more on the romance idea. So I would have to so no to yaoi, but meh to the possibility of shounen-ai.

That does little to explain what the fuss with the Japanese is, Randomness. After all, manga is just another example of a Japanese word that English-speaking people have taken to using even when we already have a perfectly good English word for the same concept - comix. Your first sentence merely contributes another example of the fuss with the Japanese for us to question what it's all about.

As to the separation of "more explicit" yaoi, and shounen-ai that "focuses more on the romance idea", that is more than just your personal opinion. That is a commonly held division among much of the boys love culture and fandom. I won't claim it's absolutely ubiquitous (since, as we all know, only Sith deal in absolutes), but as one who pays attention to homosexuality in fiction, I have pretty firmly gotten the impression that using the two terms in such ways is broadly prevalent.

That said, maybe it's the art style, or maybe it's the writing style, but even disregarding ak-ryuu's stated decision to keep this comic from getting that explicit with any sexual encounters, I do think SHD-WK does not lend itself naturally to hardcore sex scenes, or even sexy pin-ups, either male, female, or mixed company. It just doesn't fit. Thus, I'll agree with you that shounen-ai would be more appropriate than full-fledged yaoi.

You meant to say "either male, female, or dragon", didn't you. ;) (You wouldn't believe some of the fanart I've seen ...)

In all fairness, you do tend to draw dragons without any clothes on. :p

....except for Edgar, obviously. Weird clothes are kind of his thing.
