I almost bought Civ 4, but whenever I buy one of Sid Meier's games, I don't stop playing for months. It's too big a drain on my time.

@Negation - I got GTA and GTA II a while back, on my other computer. Good games. If you're interested in games like that, check out Liberated Games

It is pretty time consuming. I got it as a gift in December, and I still play it a few times a week.

Alpha Centauri was probably the most idiotic purchase I ever made, because I bought it during the school year and I still play it, several years later.

Cool, there's quite a bunch of games there that I used to play. Recently I have been spending my free time to play Freespace II, which is really great game even today. There's even total conversion for Babylon 5 universe, but I haven't had time to check that out.

Heh, I believe that. Alpha Centauri is one of my favourite games of the genre.

So I hired out Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 for the X-Box 360 today, and I have to admit it is a very stylish game, and somehow much more satisfying to play than the only other similar game I've played on the console so far: Gears.

The game is very tactical, and enemies respond just like real enemies, seeking out cover when fired at, waiting for the best moment to attack and so forth.
The element of realism is very strong, and the CPU teammates respond well to commands in single player. Sometimes I wish I could just have a team of medics though, since the shooters couldn't hit the broadside of a barn... with a nuke :p

What appeals to me most though is the way you can use spy drones and other recon technology to spot and mark enemies within an area before you advance, giving you a crucial advantage and allowing you to plan your moves.

Anyway, fun game and highly recommended. Making me wish I could take it online for a spin >.>

I've been playing CIV3 lately, instead of, say, homework, eating, sleeping or any other activity sane people do.

See! See! Him too!

My anecdotal evidence will rule the day.

The Civ games ARE addictive, and I've over-played them since the first one, which I played on my room-mate of the time's mac until he'd kick me off to play it himself. lol

You're just trying to get me to mention FreeCiv again so you can count me in on the list of Civ addicts ;P

Chaos-drone: I've also played that. I never got far into the single player campaign though because somthing was wrong with my disk. It's still a pretty cool game though. Though I reilized a problem in trying to get a large number of players into any one game online. The UAV's are really useful too.

Yeh, I didn't have much time to get in to the single player stuff since I just hired it out. Might buy it sometime if it drops in price ^.^

Gonna see if I can pick up one of the Guitar Hero games for the 360 tomorrow... then what life I have shall cease to exist for a few weeks >.>

The version of FreeCiv on Linux is much better than the Windows one. There's not really much difference, but all the windows look better and work like they're supposed to more often.

But that wasn't really my aim.

Which means it's only your fault that I can now point to quite a few Civ addicts on this forum!

I stuck with Freecell. It's actually depressing how many games I've played.
