Hmm, how do I explain. If it's a new/different/complicated Spiky pose, I sketch it out with pencil and scan it in; otherwise, I use an existing pose and modify it. Using that as a guide, I then freehand-draw the black outlines with a mouse in an ancient version of Photoshop (and I mean ancient - 3.0.5) -- I'm not very good at drawing with a mouse, since I have some problems with my wrist, so it's mostly just small straight lines that make up the curves; I couldn't freehand-draw a curve with a mouse. I then resize this to about 70-80%, and assemble it the way the finished strip will be. Then I fill in the colour for Spiky, without any shading, with the pencil tool ... and then I freehand-draw the background with paintbrush or airbrush tools, depending on what it is. In the end I resize the whole thing again to the size that is on the web.

It would probably look much better if I had a Wacom tablet and Illustrator, but I'll make do with what I have :)

That wasn't a very helpful explanation, was it? :/ ... I could do a step-by-step explanation with pictures at some point in the future. If I ever find the time...

Any more detailed questions, just ask.

I think it's pretty cool that you can do all that freehand with a mouse. Must be pretty hard. :)

In this other comic I read, the guy who draws it posted a video of him drawing the comic. It showed the whole process in two 10 min videos on youtube. (he speed them up, like, 400% so you could see the whole thing that fast, but it was still pretty cool). He has one of the tablet things that you mentioned.

Heh, I think it's cool that you draw your stuff nearly exactly the same way I do ^.^

Although, I do have a more recent version of Photoshop... and Illustrator, but I don't really know my way 'round Illustrator too well :)

Wish I had a Wacom tablet tho, drawing with the mouse is a wrist-killer alright lol

Just noticed that. I'm assuming you mean Tim Buckley's video over at CAD. I like Tim's work mainly because of his cartoony style, which is a style I use when I color things. I'd kill for that kick-ass tablet of his tho... drawing everything straight onto a screen and into Photoshop... *sigh*
