Vincent is treading tricky waters here. For some reason he downplays the baron's actions, but on the other hand, Vincent is still accusing him. Since the baron isn't present, Vincent could be a bit more assertive in his words I think. The judge probably wouldn't hold it against Vincent.

I'm kinda surprised that Vincent thinks he deserved the beating... I wonder if he is feeling bad for losing his temper. recall this strip (http://www.shd-wk.com/index.php?strip_id=835). I wonder if he does think his actions were wrong, but is unwilling to admit it to the Barron or to the Judge. out of fear of punishment?

Man, Vincent looks like shit. I bet he looks even worse when this is over. He needs looking after. Too bad, he probably wouldn't let anyone do it (unless he gets really bad perhaps).

And hello the forum! I do still read every new strip, I just don't comment so much.

I'm not the least bit suprised he thinks he did deserve the beating. He did. He didn't deserve the additional punishment.

Vince is in a tough spot. He's had a week to go over this.

No he didn't, if he beat the baron half to death he wouldn't deserve that level of punishment. Ashcliff has been abusing him for years and his brother before him, and whipping is far worse for Vincent than it is for most people.

Hey, walls of text are appropriate here. This is interesting. I would be disappointed if the dialogue here weren't detailed.

I didn't say it was right. He's been beaten for completely arbritary reasons before. This time the baron could actually believe that Sir Vincent would strike him, and that's attempting to injure his lord.

Either Sir Vincent intentionally tried to strike the baron, in which case he would expect to be beaten as punishment. Or he lost control and attempted to strike the baron, in which case he could expect punishment for losing control. Or he stopped himself, in which case he could expect punishment for coming so close.

The baron is an evil, vicious man. He hurts Sir Vincent in many ways, usually for no reason at all. This was the only time I've seen Vincent take physical action against the insolent rotter, who deserves nothing better than a long walk in the desert, much less the service of several fine men.

But that thrice-damned son of pigs is the Baron Dragonore, and Vincent is a Worthless.

Sir Vincent did nothing wrong, but he was going to get beaten for it. What, after all, is the pain of flesh?

Read some of what Ashcliff said to him before. Some things cut worse than a beating. That's why the baron didn't leave it at that.

Thanks ak-ryuu, for making such excellent characters.

Hearing about all this from Vincent's POV is just... heartbreaking.
