I'd be interested in a map of the world in SHD.
It always helps - at least for me - to know the rough geography of the region/world the story is taking place.

You must have something like that in your mind or perhaps even a sketch or a detailed map.
Well, if you do, it'd be a nice treat if we could have a look at it. :p

Uhm.... in my mind, yes.

Think it will show up on a brain scan? ;P .... I guess that means that I should draw one, some time soon ....

Anyway, in the north, there are mountains, tall ones in the west and not-so-tall ones in the east, and in between, there's Rahenby, the village. To the west of Rahenby is Dragonore, and to the east is Sheldon's Drake. Far south of Rahenby is Thurlow Manor, and even further south is Blackthorn, and even further south is Cattsborough, the town. That's all the places we've been so far I think ...

... yeah, I should draw a map. Some time soon.

Edited: Mixed up east and west again (corrected now). I always do that ... >_>

I would draw one if I had some more information.
I'm not _that_ creative. ;p

Well, I just keep asking for it. :)

Edit: More backgrounds would help. *g*

Indeed, a map would be a nice addition to the background information. It's not that we don't know relative locations of the places, but I find it easier to remember and make difference between places when I have seen a map. It might have something to do with my innate ability to mix east and west in written text (like while playing muds) ;)

We all do that. Some of us confuse left/right and up/down...

Well well, I've been mapping a bit. Since a) I always sort of thought of Scotland, and b) I figure the webcomic takes place in some weird parallel world to our own world (too many similarities to be completely fantasy, after all people there know at least English and some of them, Latin ;P)), I grabbed a map of Scotland, matched it up with the map in my mind, and produced this for now. Lots of place names still missing, some places too, but at least it's a start ....

... and the reason the castles Dragonore and Sheldon's Drake aren't on the map, well, they are so close to Rahenby, there's no space for those extra dots there ;P

And yes, the north coast is uninhabited... it's not possible to cross the mountains, and the few places where the mountains don't reach all the way to the coast, I figure that the coast isn't navigable there, so they can't be reached by ship either. Now I wonder if the village of Rahenby is the result of a failed attempt to cross the mountains ;P

Hm. I guess I should sleep now, it's past 5 a.m. here :)

Ooh, that looks really good.

Funny thing is that since it was just mentioned that Thurlow Manor, Blackthorn and Cattsborough are south of Rahenby, I always thought that they are on more or less straight line from there. Which is clearly incorrect when you look at the map.

Nature abhors a straight line ;P

I'm somewhat wondering about the climate now though... they have a rather temperate climate there, rarely any snow (3 reasons -- I hate snow, I can't draw snow, and the timeline always ends up opposite to ours -- for example it's summer there now, but winter here -- so it would look stupid and confusing). Is that even possible, in the middle of the land, between mountains? Any climate experts here? :)

Dunno, I'm certainly no expert. But if you think of southern England, heated by the gulf stream - there's hardly any snow, just rain.
Second, if there are mountains of reasonable height (lets say, 1000+m) in the north and west, they'd diminish the amount of rain the country would get: Nord and West are the primary directions where ugly weather comes in, and the mountains would force the clouds to rain up before crossing them. The World would need to have enough water around, else there would just be a desert (like some areas in Chile or Peru, where they got all those fancy Telescopes).

Ok, some very rough sketches for a start ,)

PS.: I should add one implicit assumption: Northern hemisphere, wind predominantly from the west.

I don't know what it's like in places where mountains are, but where I live (totally no mountains at all), we had 1 whole day of snow so far. <_<
So, yeah, I'm not so surprised when I don't see snow in a comic when it's winter. :P
