Sooo... They're offering Japanese as a language at my school next year. I have already studied it, and I was wondering if anyone else has. Sohh desu, ne?

Never studied it properly. I learned some when I was 16 and had an older friend who was studying Japanese at the university, and then learned kana and kanji a couple years ago, and picked up some during the time I was active in the fansubbing scene (again a couple years ago) ... but nothing really useful.

I know how to use a kanji dictionary, that's about it :)

I knew enough to get me by on a Japanese Ultima Online server and in some of my import DS games... I realy want to learn the whole deal though. Out of all of the characters, I like Japanese characters the most... *Shrugs*

I just need to find someone that speaks it... I just seem to know way more Chinese people... And I really should learn Chinese... Ugh...

Heh. I studied some Chinese too, and even learned to speak a bit, but none of their characters. There's a cool site I found for learning Japanese http://lrnj.com/slimeforest.html In addition to being an interesting game, it actually is a good teacher for the spoken language and a primer for the kanji.

Bah, Spanish is for the weak. True men speak Greek, so it's good you're taking the MANs language. Latin is just a sissified version of Greek in my opinion, so remember, Greek ain't for the meek, just those who ain't weak! (By the way, people who use "ain't" are on my pet peeve list)

Mine was limited to French and German...and we were forced to take at least one of those. <_<

German is fun. I had to take two courses- English and Russian/German/French. I took German and that was a big mistake, because now I'm studying Russian philology...so choose your languages wisely!

wish we had cool languages on offer when i was in school...

One guy in my school did do french though, that was externally offered. He was from Malawi and hadn't done any South African language subjects...

Did Tswana for a while, dont remember a bit of it, then did zulu, and remember VERY little. Did afrikaans since grade 4 (? i think?) and never really got good at it.

if i had to choose a language now, it would definatly be french or japanese... hopefully both!

On the note of teaching urself i know a guy who has some basic Jap under his belt from watching anime... i told him he must have been bored, but i was jealous!

Hiro Nakamora is my Hero (hahaha! that was a good pun...)
